Scope
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") applies to everyone who uses the Relaykit website, console or API, including people who use applications built by our customers. It is part of our Terms of Service. If you build a product on the API, you are responsible for making sure your own users follow rules at least as strict as these.
Prohibited content
You may not use the Service to generate, request, store or distribute content that:
- sexualises minors in any way, or depicts or facilitates child sexual abuse or exploitation (we report such material to the appropriate authorities);
- is non-consensual intimate imagery, or sexual content involving real people without their consent;
- incites, glorifies or provides operational help for violence, terrorism or violent extremism;
- provides meaningful uplift for creating biological, chemical, nuclear or radiological weapons, or other weapons capable of mass casualties;
- harasses, threatens, bullies or defames people, or promotes hatred based on protected characteristics;
- encourages self-harm, suicide or eating disorders;
- infringes intellectual property, privacy or publicity rights, including unlawfully collected personal data;
- is designed to deceive: impersonation, fake reviews, academic dishonesty services, disinformation campaigns, or undisclosed AI-generated content where disclosure is legally required.
Prohibited activities
- Fraud, scams, phishing, social engineering or creating malicious software, ransomware or exploits aimed at systems you do not own or have permission to test.
- Spam: bulk unsolicited messages, automated account creation, or content farms producing low-value pages at scale.
- Surveillance, tracking or profiling of individuals without a lawful basis, including facial recognition of private individuals or inferring sensitive traits.
- Gambling, lending, weapons, drugs or other regulated activities without the licences and safeguards the law requires.
- Political campaigning, lobbying or election manipulation at scale, or impersonating candidates or officials.
- Using outputs to develop models that compete with the Upstream Providers where their terms forbid it, or attempting to extract model weights, system prompts, training data or other non-public information.
- Any activity that violates applicable law, export controls or sanctions.
High-risk uses
AI outputs can be wrong. Do not use the Service as the sole basis for decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on people (for example credit, employment, housing, insurance, education, immigration or criminal justice), or to provide medical, legal or financial advice without review by a qualified professional. Do not use it to operate safety-critical systems such as vehicles, medical devices, weapons or critical infrastructure. Tell users when they are interacting with an AI system where that is not obvious.
Security & platform abuse
- Do not probe, scan or test the vulnerability of our systems without written permission. Report vulnerabilities to support@relaykit.dev instead; we welcome good-faith reports.
- Do not circumvent authentication, billing, rate limits, model access restrictions or safety filters, including by jailbreaking at scale or rotating keys or accounts.
- Do not interfere with or overload the Service (for example, denial-of-service traffic or deliberately malformed requests).
- Do not open multiple accounts to collect trials or promotional credit, or use stolen or unauthorised payment methods.
Rate limits & fair use
To keep the Service responsive for everyone, we apply limits on requests per minute, tokens per minute and concurrent connections, per key and per account. Limits can differ by model, account age and payment history, and Upstream Providers apply their own limits. When you hit a limit the API returns HTTP 429; back off and retry with exponential delay. If you need higher limits for a legitimate workload, email us with your expected volume. Use "stream": true for long generations rather than many long-held idle connections.
Reselling & sharing keys
- API keys are personal to your account. Do not publish, sell, rent, trade or give keys to others, and do not offer "shared keys" or account access as a product.
- You may build and sell your own application or service that uses the API on the back end, provided your users cannot obtain your keys, your product adds its own functionality, and you remain responsible for their use under this AUP.
- Operating a public API proxy or relay whose main purpose is to resell raw access to our API requires our prior written agreement.
- Within a team, create separate keys per person or application so you can revoke them individually.
Upstream provider policies
Each model is operated by a third-party provider whose usage policies also apply to your requests. Where a provider's policy is stricter than this AUP, the stricter rule applies to that model. Providers may block or filter requests independently of us. Review the usage policy of the provider for any model you rely on, for example Anthropic's Usage Policy, OpenAI's Usage Policies and xAI's Acceptable Use Policy.
Enforcement
We use automated signals (such as volume patterns, payment risk and provider flags) and, where needed, human review of limited request data to detect violations, as described in our Privacy Policy. Depending on severity we may:
- warn you and ask you to change your use;
- throttle, restrict models for, or revoke specific keys;
- suspend or permanently close the account, with forfeiture of trial or promotional credit and, for serious or repeated abuse, purchased credit where the law allows;
- report illegal activity to law enforcement and share information with the relevant Upstream Provider.
If you believe we made a mistake, reply to the enforcement email or contact support@relaykit.dev and we will review the decision.
Reporting abuse
If you see content or activity that you believe was generated through Relaykit in breach of this policy, email legal@relaykit.dev with as much detail as you can (URLs, timestamps, screenshots). We review every report.
